Marvel at an incredible display of intricate artistry and devotion at Linh Phuoc Pagoda, often nicknamed the "Ve Chai" Pagoda because large parts of its exterior are covered in elaborate mosaics made from reclaimed glass and pottery fragments (ve chai means scrap glass/pottery). Located about 8km from Da Lat city center in the Trai Mat area (reachable by the novelty train from Da Lat Railway Station or by road), this unique Buddhist temple is a dazzling spectacle of colour and detail.
Every surface of the main structures seems to be adorned with meticulous mosaic work depicting dragons, phoenixes, Buddhist scenes, and floral patterns. Key highlights include the towering 37-meter-high bell tower (said to be the tallest in Vietnam, visitors can ring the giant bell inside), the main ceremonial hall with its impressive statues, and various other elaborate structures within the complex, including a giant Bodhisattva statue made of immortal flowers. There's even an intricate depiction of Buddhist hell in a lower level.
Visiting Linh Phuoc Pagoda is a feast for the eyes, showcasing incredible craftsmanship and dedication. It's an active place of worship, so remember to dress respectfully. Whether you arrive via the scenic train ride to Trai Mat or by road, allow ample time to explore the different buildings and appreciate the sheer detail of the mosaic work. It's a unique and unforgettable temple experience, very different from typical pagodas in Vietnam.
