The Unique Clay Tunnel (Sculpture Tunnel)

Discover a truly unique artistic creation amidst the pine forests near Tuyen Lam Lake at the Da Lat Clay Tunnel (also known as Sculpture Tunnel or Đường Hầm Điêu Khắc / Đất Sét). This fascinating attraction takes visitors on a journey along a winding pathway flanked by elaborate sculptures carved directly out of the reddish basalt clay soil native to the Central Highlands. It's a distinctive art installation that tells the story of Da Lat's history, culture, and landmarks in a highly original medium, offering a very different experience from the city's natural or colonial attractions.

As you walk the pathway, which includes some tunnel-like sections, you'll encounter an impressive array of detailed clay sculptures. These artworks depict themes ranging from the region's early history and indigenous animals to miniature replicas of iconic Da Lat architecture, such as the Da Lat Railway Station, the Chicken Church (Da Lat Cathedral), and even representations of the city's development. Scenes of highland life and whimsical figures add to the diverse collection, showcasing the versatility and artistry achievable with packed clay.

The Clay Tunnel offers numerous interesting photo opportunities and provides a creative, condensed overview of Da Lat's heritage and famous sights. An entrance fee is required, and due to its popularity, it can get quite busy, especially during peak times (as of April 2025). Often visited in conjunction with nearby Tuyen Lam Lake and Truc Lam Zen Monastery, the Clay Tunnel is a worthwhile stop for those interested in unique art forms and seeing a creative interpretation of Da Lat's story etched into the earth itself.
