Discover another captivating temple in HCMC temples District 1, the Jade Emperor Pagoda (Chua Ngoc Hoang or Phuoc Hai Tu). Built by the Cantonese community in the early 20th century, this atmospheric pagoda is filled with elaborate carvings, colourful statues of deities and heroes from both Buddhist and Taoist traditions, and the ever-present haze of incense.
The pagoda gained international fame when former US President Obama visited pagoda Vietnam here in 2016. It's particularly known for its Hall of the Ten Hells depicting judgment scenes and figures like Kim Hua, the goddess of fertility, making it popular among those praying for children.
