Thanh Ha Pottery Village Experience

Discover the enduring art of pottery making, a craft deeply embedded in Hoi An's history, with a visit to the Thanh Ha Pottery Village. Located just a few kilometers west of the Ancient Town along the Thu Bon River, this traditional village has been shaping clay for centuries, providing pottery, bricks, and roof tiles (including many used in the restoration of Hoi An's heritage buildings) for generations. It offers a fascinating insight into a traditional Vietnamese handicraft.

Wander through the village lanes and observe skilled artisans, often entire families, demonstrating traditional pottery techniques. Watch them expertly work the clay on foot-powered potter's wheels, shape intricate designs by hand, and fire their creations in large wood-fired kilns. The atmosphere is one of focused craftsmanship passed down through families. Many workshops warmly welcome visitors and offer the chance to try their own hand at the potter's wheel – a fun, interactive experience resulting in a unique, handmade souvenir to take home (after firing).

Beyond the workshops, don't miss the impressive Thanh Ha Terracotta Park nearby, a museum showcasing the history of pottery and featuring impressive ceramic art pieces and miniature replicas of world landmarks. Visiting Thanh Ha Pottery Village provides a valuable cultural experience, allowing you to appreciate the skill involved in this ancient craft and its connection to Hoi An's heritage, making it a worthwhile hidden gem excursion just outside the main town.
