Located much closer to Mui Ne town than their white counterparts, the Red Sand Dunes offer a different but equally captivating landscape. As their name suggests, these dunes boast a striking reddish-orange hue, derived from older iron-rich sand. While smaller in scale compared to the White Sand Dunes, their convenient location and beautiful colours make them an extremely popular spot, especially for watching the sunset.
The main activities here are enjoying the views and engaging in some lighthearted fun. Renting thin plastic sleds from local vendors to slide down the sandy slopes is a popular pastime for visitors of all ages. The dunes provide excellent vantage points to watch the sun dip below the horizon, painting the sky and the reddish sand in warm, dramatic colours – making it a favourite spot for sunset photography.
Due to their easy accessibility, the Red Sand Dunes can get quite crowded, particularly around sunset. However, their unique colour and the fun atmosphere make them a worthwhile stop on a Mui Ne tour, often included alongside the White Sand Dunes and other local attractions in jeep excursions. It’s a great place to experience the dune phenomenon close to town and capture those classic Mui Ne sunset shots.
