Thap Doi (Twin Cham Towers) in the City

Discover a piece of ancient history right within the modern city limits of Quy Nhon at Thap Doi, the Twin Cham Towers. These two impressive brick structures stand as well-preserved examples of the architecture of the Champa Kingdom, which held sway over this region of Central Vietnam centuries ago. Their convenient location within Quy Nhon city itself makes them one of the most easily accessible Cham historical sites for visitors staying in town.

Built during the late 12th to early 13th centuries, the two towers, though similar in style with their pyramidal roofs and sculpted details, are not identical. Admire the characteristic Cham artistry, including intricate carvings at the base and corners, reflecting Hindu influences common in Champa architecture. Although the main objects of worship are long gone, the towers themselves offer a tangible connection to the region's pre-Vietnamese past and the sophisticated culture that created them.

Visiting Thap Doi provides a quick yet fascinating glimpse into Cham history without requiring a trip far outside the city. The surrounding park area offers a pleasant space to walk around the towers and appreciate their structure from different angles. While perhaps less extensive than the Banh It Towers cluster further away, the Thap Doi Towers are a significant cultural attraction and a convenient historical stop for anyone exploring Quy Nhon.
